Ledder Metal Engineering Increases Productivity by 40% with the NHP 5000

Among those partners is Ledder’s affiliated company, Ledder Metal Engineering, which specializes in the production of large workpieces; they needed something more than your average horizontal machining center.

Ledder finds success with high-production multi-level RPS

The NHP 5000 horizontal machining center provides Ledder Metal Engineering 40% more productivity than any of its counterparts on the shop floor. They always knew that automation was going to play an important role in achieving stable and continuous growth. However, finding worthwhile automation options for production lines that handle casting or large workpieces with a dimension of 12,000 mm was not an easy task.

The solution: an automated horizontal machining center based on a multi-pallet system. For the last year and a half, the NHP 5000 equipped with the RPS 5000 has been the answer they were looking for. The automation that the RPS provides allows them to continue running operations overnight and easily handles the large workpieces.

“We categorize workpieces by material and load them on the pallet during the daytime and automate machines for mass production during the nighttime. The horizontal machining center equipped with Doosan’s multi-pallet system has contributed a lot to our increased productivity and growth,” said Koen Dekker, Ledder Metaaltechniek’s Managing Director and General Manager.

Limited floor space isn’t a concern

Doosan’s RPS 5000 is a compact automation system with 500 x 500 mm pallets. And since it can stack up to 21 pallets three levels high, it allows for increased productivity even when there isn’t a lot of floorspace to work with.

“In my opinion, the Round Pallet System (RPS) was the better option for us compared to the Linear Pallet System (LPS) because of a clamping tower in the pallet. In particular, we have evolved the system by developing our own molds; when they’re combined with Doosan’s zero-point clamping system it allows for faster tool changes,” said Koen Dekker.

And thanks to the NHP 5000’s full fourth B axis, Ledder can use all four of the clamping sides. Their previous horizontal machining center could tilt the workpiece to make horizontal holes, but the NHP achieves the same results 40% faster.

A more efficient workspace

Ledder Metaaltechniek recently constructed a new building and doubled their available floor space. With the added room, they’ve been able to automate the logistics process and increase customer satisfaction even more. More growth—and more Doosan—is certainly in their future.
